The detail

Who actually stocks Frontier Pets, and what it costs

Only two of the ten retailers we track list Frontier Pets: Pet Circle and PETO. On our editorial estimates Pet Circle is cheapest on both packs, at $64.00 for the 1kg Free-Range Chicken and $66.00 for the Free-Range Beef, with PETO a flat $2.00 above on each, at $66.00 and $68.00. Petbarn, Petstock and Budget Pet Products hold no listing, which is why availability scores 58/100.

Pet Circle's flat-rate delivery is free over $49, so a single $64.00 chicken pack clears it alone. PETO's threshold is $59 with delivery from $8.95, which the $66.00 pack also clears. PETO carries a low-price guarantee and Pet Circle does not price match, so the $2.00 gap is worth raising with PETO. Prices here are editorial estimates, so confirm before ordering.

Pack size: 1kg is the only option, so per kg is the pack price

There is no bulk lever with Frontier Pets. Both products we hold are 1kg air-dried packs, so the pack price and the price per kilo are the same number: on our editorial estimates, $64.00/kg for chicken and $66.00/kg for beef. On our 15kg adult dog estimate that is $6.40 and $6.60 a day, so one pack covers about ten days, roughly three packs a month.

The only saving inside the range is the recipe. Chicken and beef both rate 90/100, with chicken at 40% protein and 28% fat against beef at 38% and 30%, so the $2.00 per kilo gap buys no extra score. Feeding chicken rather than beef is about $0.20 a day, near $73 over a year. Prices are editorial estimates and this is not veterinary advice.

Autoship is the main discount lever these two stockists offer

Only Pet Circle prices a subscription on these packs in our data. On our editorial estimates autoship takes the chicken from $64.00 to $60.80 and the beef from $66.00 to $62.70, saving $3.20 and $3.30 a pack. At roughly three packs a month that is close to $10 a month on chicken, and it is the largest standing discount our data holds on Frontier Pets.

The other lever is PETO's low-price guarantee on matching items. PETO also offers repeat-order discounts, but we hold no subscription price for either Frontier pack there, so an estimated $66.00 and $68.00 remain the numbers to beat. Member pricing, the lever that pays off at Petbarn and Petstock, does nothing here because neither chain stocks the brand. A $60.80 autoship pack still clears Pet Circle's $49 free-shipping threshold, so postage stays out of the per-day figure.

Cheaper alternatives, and what each one costs you in score

The obvious air-dried substitute costs more, not less. ZIWI Peak Air-Dried Beef 1kg runs an estimated $75.00/kg and $7.50 a day, and the Lamb an estimated $79.00/kg and $7.90 a day, against Frontier's $64.00 and $66.00. ZIWI also scores lower where Frontier is strongest: 88 on ingredients and 85 on transparency against 95 and 95, and its beef rates 88/100 next to Frontier's 90/100.

The genuine saving is a format change. Prime100 SK-D Single Protein Dry Kangaroo 8kg works out at an estimated $14.88/kg and $3.20 a day, half the chicken pack's $6.40, and is cheapest at Pet Circle at an estimated $115.00. Be clear about the trade: 85/100 against 90/100, and a brand ingredient score of 83 versus 95. Prime100's 2kg SLR Kangaroo roll sits between them at an estimated $4.40 a day.
