The short version
Anyone can submit a product: a brand, a distributor or a reader who thinks we have missed something. What a submission buys is a place in the queue, and that is the whole of it. The scoring model is published, the weights are fixed, and they are the same for a brand that writes to us and a brand that never has.

01 · Before you submit
How our review process works.
Five things that are true of every submission we receive, whoever sends it. Read them first: they are the answer to most of what brands write to ask us.
Submissions are editorial, not paid
Submitting a product does not guarantee a review, and scores cannot be purchased. Rankings cannot be influenced by a commercial relationship.
Reviews are independent
All scoring uses our published 100-point methodology. A brand's commercial relationship with Dog Food Reviews, including any future affiliate arrangement, has no bearing on its score.
No commissions today
We currently earn nothing from links on this site. If we join an affiliate program in future, any page that earns a commission will disclose it in the review and in our affiliate disclosure. This is never connected to scoring.
Samples don't buy favour
We may request samples during the review process. Accepting a sample is disclosed in the review if relevant. A sample does not guarantee coverage or a positive score.
We may not respond individually
We read every submission but cannot reply to each one. If your product is selected for review, we will be in touch.

02 · After you submit
What happens to it next.
Three steps, and none of them is negotiable by the sender. Publishing the queue is what stops the queue being the thing that gets negotiated.
- Step 01
It joins the editorial queue.
Submissions go into an editorial queue and are assessed against our review schedule and our published criteria. Nothing about the sender changes the order of that queue.
- Step 02
It is assessed against the schedule.
We review a small number of products each month, so we cannot guarantee coverage of every submission. A product that does not fit this month's schedule is not a product that failed.
- Step 03
We come back to you if it is selected.
If the product fits our current review schedule, we will be in touch. We do not respond to every submission individually, but all of them are read.

03 · The model
What your product would be scored on.
One model, 6 weighted checks, 100 points, applied identically to every brand in the index. The weights are published before a product is submitted, not decided after it arrives.
The 100-point model
Points available in each pillar
Price & Value and Ingredient Quality carry 25 points each, so 50 of every 100 comes down to what a food costs to feed and what is actually in it.
| Pillar | Points available |
|---|---|
| Price & Value | 25 pts |
| Ingredient Quality | 25 pts |
| Nutrition & Suitability | 20 pts |
| Transparency | 15 pts |
| Availability & Convenience | 10 pts |
| Customer Sentiment | 5 pts |
Weights published in our methodology
“A submission puts a product in front of the model. It does not put a thumb on the scale.”
What helps
A full ingredient list, a guaranteed analysis, a stated life stage, a country of manufacture and a current Australian price. A product that publishes all of that can be scored on every pillar. A product that publishes less is scored lower on transparency, and we say which figure we could not find rather than guessing at it.
04 · The limits
What a submission cannot buy.
Nothing on this list is available at any price, to any brand, in any format. It is published here so nobody has to ask.
Not for sale
- Buy a place in the index, a ranking position or an award.
- Buy a score, lift its own, or lower a competitor's.
- Shorten the review queue, or lengthen anyone else's.
- Change the weighting our model applies to it.
- Preview, approve or sign off the review before it publishes.
What a submission does buy
A place in the queue.
It tells us a product exists, where to buy it and what the manufacturer publishes about it, which is the whole of what our scoring model reads. That is a genuine service to a reader comparing 20 brands, and it is the only thing a submission is for.
Submit a productCommon questions
Product submissions, answered.
No. Submissions go into an editorial queue and are assessed against our review schedule and criteria. We review a small number of products each month and cannot guarantee coverage of every submission.
No. Scores and rankings cannot be purchased. Our editorial scoring is based entirely on our published 100-point methodology: independent of any commercial relationship with a brand.
Our editorial team reviews the submission. If the product fits our current review schedule, we will be in touch. We do not respond to every submission individually, but all are read.
We may request samples as part of our editorial process. Accepting a sample does not guarantee a review, does not guarantee a positive score, and is always disclosed in the review if it influenced our assessment.
Not today. We currently earn nothing from links on this site. If we join an affiliate program in future, affected pages will disclose it and commissions will never change a score or a ranking: a brand with an affiliate link would score on exactly the same criteria as a brand without one.
