Who signs the work, and what they are recused from.

Everyone named on this site is listed below, and every entry carries the same three things: what that person covers, the commercial interests we disclose, and the coverage they take no part in. Where someone is recused from nothing, the entry says that too. The limits are published here because a limit nobody can read is not a limit.

The rest of the site

Signed “our editorial team”.

The 20 brand scores and the 10 retailer price tables in our index are produced and reviewed by our editorial team against one published methodology. Where a named contributor is involved, their entry below states the boundary.

Jackson Wilson

Publisher and owner of the scoring methodology

Publisher of Dog Food Reviews and the owner of its 100-point scoring methodology. He is also a brand consultant, which is a commercial interest in the category this site scores, so it is disclosed plainly here and again on any page where an affected brand appears.

What they cover

The 100-point scoring methodology and the published index that runs on it. He is accountable for how a score is built, not for any single brand's place in it.

Disclosed interests

  • He is a brand consultant. That is a commercial interest in the category this site scores, and it is stated here rather than buried in a policy page.

Recused from

  • He does not score, rank or write the verdict for any brand he has a consulting relationship with.

  • Where such a brand appears anywhere on this site, the relationship is disclosed on the page it appears on, not only here.

Adam Lorimer

Contributing reviewer, brand and product side

A contributing reviewer on the brand and product side of Dog Food Reviews. His basis for the work is Australian pet industry experience. He holds no veterinary or nutrition qualification, so his name is not attached to clinical or dietary-health claims, and he is recused from all retailer-facing coverage.

What they cover

Brand and product coverage only. He covers nothing retailer-facing, and his name is not attached to any clinical or dietary-health claim.

Disclosed interests

  • He formerly worked at PETstock Group.

  • He holds no veterinary or nutrition qualification. He is not a nutritionist, a vet or a dietitian, and he is not the authority behind any clinical or dietary-health claim published on this site.

Recused from

  • He takes no part in scoring, ranking or writing about retailers. Petstock is one of the retailers this site scores, and he formerly held a corporate role at PETstock Group.

  • That recusal covers the retailer scores, the retailer comparisons, the cheapest-at-retailer verdicts and the retailer commentary in our dog food price index.

Dr Chris Wolmarans BVSc

Veterinary reviewer, diet and health claims

A practising Australian veterinarian in general practice, who graduated from vet school in South Africa. He has been at Family Vet Centre since 2010 and with Our Family's Mobile Vet since 2017. On this site he reviews nutrition and health claims and nothing else. He is not a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, and his name is not attached to our scores, our price work or our retailer coverage.

What they cover

Nutrition and health claims only. He reviews what this site says about diet and about a dog's health, and he covers nothing else: scores, prices, brand-commercial analysis and retailer coverage are not his work and his name is not attached to them.

Disclosed interests

  • He has been at Family Vet Centre since 2010 and with Our Family's Mobile Vet since 2017. Who employs a reviewer is material to a reader, so both practices are named here.

  • He is not a board-certified veterinary nutritionist. He is a practising Australian veterinarian in general practice, and that is the whole of the qualification behind his name.

  • He has no commercial connection to any brand or retailer in this index, which is why no brand recusal sits below.

Recused from

Nothing, because no commercial conflict applies: this contributor has no relationship with any brand or retailer in our index. The boundary on the name is a limit of expertise rather than a conflict, and it is the one set out under “What they cover” above.

Lucinda Woodford

Contributing reviewer, practical feeding and owner experience

A contributing reviewer on the practical feeding and owner experience side of Dog Food Reviews. She is a dog walker, so she spends a very large amount of time with dogs of different ages, energy levels, temperaments and routines, from high-energy dogs that need hard exercise to slower walks with older dogs. She reads ingredient panels, researches foods and treats, and compares brands on what an owner is actually getting for the money. She holds no veterinary or nutrition qualification, so her name is not attached to clinical or dietary-health claims, to our retailer coverage or to our brand scores.

What they cover

Practical feeding and owner experience only: what feeding a food is actually like for the person doing it. She takes no part in the 100-point brand scores, she covers nothing retailer-facing, and her name is not attached to any clinical or dietary-health claim.

Disclosed interests

  • She holds no veterinary or nutrition qualification. She is not a nutritionist, a vet or a dietitian, and she is not the authority behind any clinical or dietary-health claim published on this site.

  • She has no commercial connection to any brand or retailer in this index. The recusals below are limits on what her name may carry, not conflicts.

Recused from

  • Her name carries no clinical or dietary-health claim. She holds no veterinary or nutrition qualification, so what this site says about diet and about a dog's health is reviewed by our veterinary reviewer and not by her.

  • She takes no part in scoring, ranking or writing about retailers.

  • She takes no part in the 100-point brand scores. The scored brand analysis is not her work, and her name is not attached to it.

How to read this page

What a name on this site means.

A byline is a claim of authority, so it is worth being exact about how much authority it claims and where it stops.

A name is a scope, not a credential

Each entry states what that person covers here. Where a contributor holds no qualification in an area, we say so on their entry rather than letting a byline imply one.

A qualification is published with its limit

Our veterinary reviewer covers what this site says about diet and about a dog's health. He is not a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, and he does not review our scores, our prices, our brand-commercial analysis or our retailer coverage, so his name does not sit on them.

Interests are stated, not buried

Commercial interests sit on this page in plain words, and again on any page where an affected brand appears. A disclosure that only exists in a policy document is not a disclosure.

Recusals are published, or they are not real

Where someone is barred from part of the index, the bar is written down here with the reason it applies. An internal note nobody can read commits us to nothing.

Everything else is unsigned

Pages that carry no personal byline are produced and reviewed by our editorial team under the same published methodology. Being unsigned is not being unaccountable.

Think an entry here is wrong or incomplete?

Send the page, the claim and your evidence to hello@dogfoodreviews.com.au. Corrections to a disclosure or a recusal are treated the same way as a correction to a score, and are decided on the evidence rather than on who is asking.
