Julius
Aldi's everyday house brand: very cheap per kg and convenient, but firmly entry-level. It scores low because the panels are cereal-led rather than named-meat-first, sourcing detail is minimal, and the meat content sits well below the premium tier. A no-frills budget feed where the low price is doing all the work; weigh it on cost-per-day, not the sticker.

The detail
An Aldi label, not a pet food company
Julius belongs to Aldi. It is the supermarket's own house label for everyday dog food, not an independent brand that Aldi happens to range, and that ownership sets the terms of everything else on this page. There is no separate pet food company standing behind the name: the recipes, the packaging and the shelf position all answer to Aldi's private label operation. For a buyer, the practical upshot is that any question about the food, from an ingredient query to a complaint, runs through the supermarket that owns it rather than through a dedicated manufacturer.
The bag is Australian made, and that is nearly all the making we can tell you about. Julius scores 43 out of 100 for transparency in our index, and what that number registers here is a private label that discloses its country of manufacture and little beyond it: nothing we hold names the facility or company actually producing the food under Aldi's label, and the sourcing behind the cereals and meat meal goes unexplained. Buying Julius therefore means taking the food on Aldi's word rather than on a named maker's record. If knowing exactly who made the food matters to you, this is the wrong label.
Three formats on the shelf, one recipe in the numbers
The Julius name stretches across dry food, wet food and treats, which makes it look like a full range from the trolley. Priced out, it is narrower than that: our index carries a single Julius line, the Adult Beef & Vegetables dry bag in an 18kg pack at an estimated $45.00, and no Julius puppy, senior or breed-size recipe appears in our data. That one adult bag is the anchor of the range in every sense, since it is the recipe our product rating of 54 out of 100 attaches to and the only Julius pack whose numbers we can verify.
Because one SKU carries the range, the per-kg story is a single figure rather than a spread: $2.50 per kilogram, which is what puts Julius in our lowest price tier. Inside the bag, the panel reads cereals and meat meal first, then 18 per cent protein and 9 per cent fat, figures worth knowing before the wet food or treats join the trolley, since those formats sit outside our priced data and borrow whatever confidence the dry bag has earned. All prices are editorial estimates, and nothing here is veterinary advice.
Buying it means a trip to Aldi
The stockist list for Julius is one retailer long. Aldi carries the 18kg bag at an estimated $45.00, and no pet specialist, online store or rival supermarket in our index sells the brand at any price. In practice that makes buying Julius a physical errand: Aldi trades mostly in store, so the bag goes into a trolley by hand, on the same trip as the groceries, at whatever the shelf says that week. There is no autoship to set up and delivery is limited to some areas at best, so for most households the brand exists on a supermarket shelf or not at all.
Julius scores 66 out of 100 for availability, its best pillar, and the number carries a built-in asymmetry. For a household already passing through Aldi each week, access is effortless and the food restocks itself with the shop. For everyone else the score overstates things: with no second stockist, distance from an Aldi is distance from the brand, and supply hangs entirely on one retailer's ranging decisions. Be honest about which household yours is before settling a dog on the food, because a bag you cannot easily rebuy is a bag you will end up switching. Our figures are editorial estimates, so check the shelf.
