The Nosh Project
Well-marketed and pleasant, but you're partly buying the branding: transparency sits below national brands and it's tied to one retailer. Look past the packaging and compare it on price-per-kg against independent premium brands before deciding it's the best value.
A modern, heavily-marketed retailer-exclusive range where the branding does a lot of the work. The formulas are pleasant enough, but transparency lags national brands and a single-retailer house range gives you limited insight into sourcing and batch consistency. Slick packaging isn't a substitute for ingredient detail: price it per kg against independent brands rather than buying the look.

The detail
What separates The Nosh Project from the rest of the index
The Nosh Project is one of only two brands in our index sold as a Pet Circle own-label range, alongside Providore. It is Australian made and the brand spans dry and wet food, but the single product we hold a price for is the Adult 12kg bag at an editorially estimated $112.00 AUD, working out to $9.33 a kilo and about $2.10 a day. Both Pet Circle house ranges, this one and Providore, score 57 out of 100 for transparency.
Chicken leads the Adult 12kg formula at 26% protein and 15% fat, grain-inclusive, and the product rates 72 out of 100. The useful comparison is SavourLife Original Adult Chicken: also chicken-first, also 26% protein, at $8.06 a kilo and $2.00 a day, rated 83. Black Hawk Adult Chicken & Rice matches Nosh on cost per day at $2.10 and rates 85. The recipe reads respectably. What the score docks is everything behind it that a single-retailer label does not publish.
One retailer, one bag size, one lever on the price
Availability scores 59 out of 100, the second-weakest pillar after transparency at 57, and the reason is structural: Pet Circle is the only stockist, it has no physical stores, and it does not price match, so there is no competing quote to hold the bag against. Autoship drops the 12kg from $112.00 to $106.00 AUD, roughly $8.83 a kilo, and delivery is free above $49. That $6.00 discount is the only lever you have on this price.
Bag size is the quiet cost. At 12kg this is the smallest chicken-led adult bag among its closest comparisons: SavourLife runs 18kg and Black Hawk 20kg, which is much of why their per-kilo figures land lower. For context, $9.33 a kilo still sits under the $9.95 median across the priced products in our index. This is not an expensive food. It is expensive relative to what it discloses. Prices are editorial estimates.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
This makes sense for a household already committed to Pet Circle autoship, feeding an adult dog that does well on chicken, and comfortable with the 12kg reorder rhythm. At $2.10 a day it is a workable everyday kibble, and 62 out of 100 overall places it above the supermarket and budget house brands in our index, where Leaps & Bounds sits at 60 and ProBalance at 54, though Pet Circle's other own-label range, Providore, edges it at 64. Value at 65 and ingredients at 64 are the only pillars scoring above that overall.
Look elsewhere if you compare prices across retailers, because there is no second seller and no price match. Look elsewhere if published sourcing detail is what you want: ingredients score 64 and transparency 57, and the packaging does more work than the disclosure. The indexed range is adult dry only, so puppies, seniors and dogs needing a novel protein are not covered. For sensitivities the index points to Prime100 at 78 overall and 81 for transparency, though its kangaroo dry runs $14.88 a kilo and $3.20 a day. Not veterinary advice.

Retailer-owned / house-promoted brand. The Nosh Project is sold and promoted primarily as a retailer-owned or house range, and is often keenly priced. Because it's stocked in fewer places, independent like-for-like comparison takes a little more work, which is reflected in its transparency score. Compare on price per kg and ingredient quality to find the best value.

The shortlist
Brands we would put beside The Nosh Project

SavourLife
Premium · Good
Fair value and the rescue donations are real, not greenwash: but the food itself is good rather than exceptional, with mid-premium panels and a narrow range. Buy it because the per-kg value stacks up, not because the cause makes the ingredients better than they are.
- Value
- 78/100
- Ingredients
- 74/100
Best forValue-conscious feeders who want a clean enough panel

Ivory Coat
Premium · Good
A competent grain-free all-rounder, but it's mid-pack on every measure and now sits inside a big multi-brand portfolio where recipes have moved with ownership. Fine if the price is right on the day: just don't expect it to out-spec a more focused independent brand.

Best forGrain-free everyday feeding where 'good enough' is fine

Prime100
Premium · Good
A capable single-protein option for elimination diets, and the labels are honest. But the rolls especially carry a steep price per kg for what is a deliberately simple recipe, and the range spread across formats muddies value: price the dry against the rolls per serve before you settle on one.
